Here’s the reply I sent to Roger...</div><div> </div><font face="Times New Roman">Hi Roger:<br><br>The preamps are usually labeled, but you can always tell by the connectors.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>If you look at the one on eBay, you'll notice that the preamp connector is a<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>"blue-ribbon" style connector just like the main connector for the motor<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>etc. That indicates a "Trim Pot" preamp (actually all passive) used on the<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>VR-1000/1100. The transistorized preamp for the VR-1200 uses a DB-15<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>connector instead, and the Nuvistor preamp for the VR-2000 adds a second<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>multi-pin connector on the end of the transformer/preamp cover.<br><br>In a similar fashion, the way to tell a MK-10 head from a MK-15 is also by<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>looking at the connectors. The MK-15 has all DB style connectors with no<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>blue-ribbon.
