
<html><body><span style="font-family:Verdana; color:#000000; font-size:10pt;"><div class=MsoNormal style="font-size:12pt;MARGIN: 0in 0in 8pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face=Calibri>On the subject of stereo audio on quads I will share a story that happened back in my beginning days of this business. <o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></div>

<div class=MsoNormal style="font-size:12pt;MARGIN: 0in 0in 8pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face=Calibri>Circa 1976 we taped a program on a quad machine furnished to us while in San Francisco. I am not sure if the AVR-2 was out then but the deck did have a stereo audio stack on it. That was all fine and good until we got the tape back to LA and put it up on our VR-1200C for playback. We immediately noticed there was other audio in the background. We quickly figured out that the tape stock we used had not been bulk erased, so we were getting “bleed thru” from the unerased guard band between the stereo audio tracks. <o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></div>

<div class=MsoNormal style="font-size:12pt;MARGIN: 0in 0in 8pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face=Calibri>I’ve racked my brain and just can’t recall what we did to get by. But being typical engineers we cobbled something together. We either moved the full track audio head on the 1200C to where it only picked up the upper half of the audio track or put a piece on thin tape over half the pickup head. Whichever it was, it worked.<o:p></o:p></FONT></FONT></div>

<div class=MsoNormal style="font-size:12pt;MARGIN: 0in 0in 8pt"><FONT size=3><FONT face=Calibri>That was my first experience dealing with stereo audio on a quad machine and not a very pleasant one at that. Now, we all deal with a lot more than just two audio tracks, albeit, not on a quad machine.</FONT></FONT></div>
