button don the machine. The W1 is only stereo and composite video, with the W3
having Svideo as well I think. The conversions I have done have been perfect,
even down to the right vertical group pulses etc as seen on a WFM.

one luma tube and another "chroma" tube, displaying a pattern of dots moving
with the chroma content in the pic. Fascinating to watch! By 78'79 we had the
mutistandard Quantel digital unit. One thing with the Ferseh, you could send any
dirty video through it, including IVC, Umatic and VHS/Beta recordings without
the use of a TBC !</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

standard - did a stack of Ken Copeland tapes for our local Church. It will
also do an "EE" conversion. Of course, most of our stuff here in Oz is NTSC to
Pal.It is what I would call as lo-Pro machine, with no inbuilt tuner but
fitted with IEC power socket etc etc. That said, it does a great job of
conversion with clean burst blanking etc on a WFM. They come up occasionally
on Ebay. This one is from an Ad agency. It has selector buttons on the front
panel for the direct mode, with slide switches behind a panel for recording
mode etc,</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

eBay.co.uk-sourced SB-3680 RGB-to-CVBS, Y/C converter (serial:
20048001106).</DIV>

<DIV>It uses a KA2198BD encoder chip wired for PAL operation (pin 7
grounded) and a 4.43MHz crystal oscillator employing a Schmitt-trigger
inverter.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Inspection reveals that R1 and C5 are not fitted, which means the
4.43MHz subcarrier is not reaching pin 6 of the KA2198BD b so no wonder I
am having problems with the chroma output.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Also, the KA2198BD datasheet says that for PAL the components connected
to pin 17 should be 82uH and 15pF whereas 100uH and an unmarked capacitor
are actually fitted; if the capacitor is 20pF, these values are what the
datasheet says should be fitted for NTSC operation.</DIV>
