I don't know if you will be able to read this from the Quad List.</div><div><br></div><div>Each of these vintage tape format recoveries does depend on the physical nature of the tape stock. Generally speaking, A format stock issues are compounded by the guide situation (different tape geometry on every guide engagement potentially). Except for the VPR-1 transport, the handling of tape is somewhat rough at times. Since it can generally be agreed upon that 1" helical videotape formulations were a learning experience at that time from a manufacturing standpoint, tape quality out of the box, it's ability to survive the rigors of an A-format transport usage and long-term archival survivability were moving targets in my opinion. Over the years, each tape manufacture made improvements in 1" helical stock (3M the greatest in my opinion).
