<DIV>Quad tape magnetic particles are oriented for transverse scanning which is
part of the reason for the limitations of the audio tracks which are
longitudinal. Conversely, audio tape made with longitudinal
orientation would not work well for transverse scanning, but maybe the
audio tracks would be better!</DIV>
