Listen to hear something familiar to NBC listeners and engineers.</div><div><br></div></div><div>I saw this projected by a Sony (4K?) onto a theater screen at the AMIA Conference in Savannah, GA in November of 2008. </div><div><br></div><div>David explained that the tape was—if I'm recalling correctly—an RF or second generation baseband dub<i>. (Heterodyne?? David?)</i> He noted that the quality and color wouldn't be as high as if the transfer had been from an first-generation recording.</div><div><br></div><div>What amazed me was the sound quality! Very simple miking and very clean recording.</div><div><br></div><div>Perhaps the most important part of the tape's background is its age. Investigation turned up that this tape was the oldest surviving color Tonight Show videotape... er, Television Tape recordings in existence. </div><div><br></div><div>Others had been erased and re-recorded on or dumped, depending on what story you hear about what happened to NBC's videotape or television tape archives. It also has an interesting series of white blocks that appear in the upper right hand portion of the picture at 6:16 in. Five times. A Cuing method?</div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Helvetica, helvetica, clean, sans-serif"><br></font></div><div><font class="Apple-style-span" face="Helvetica, helvetica, clean, sans-serif">Stan has a military background... and he tied that and Christmas together into what's become "The Soldier's Christmas Song."
