I am impressed, nobody knows that one, well almost nobody. You are right it is on the ACR 25. It gives a small blast of air right at the exit point of the "Canoe". It prevents a crease in the middle of the tape which causes
the oxide to "Spit" or come streaming right off the tape because of this crease during rewind. You must have been wide awake during Cecil Browns class when he demonstrated this phenomenon on a piece of tape.
