But when I first came to NBC in 1978, TCRs were used ONLY for spot playback. EJ playback originated from U-Matic BVU-200s in 1978.
Also, as I recall, though the TCR-100 cart machine itself was capable of 2-second pre-rolls, all the other quad VTRs in the tape area on the 5th floor (mostly RCA TR-70As and Bs) used 5-second prerolls. Therefore, in order to avoid pre-roll errors, the TCRs at NBC New York had an additional 3-second delayed start function built into the machine control system which effectively made the TCRs' pre-roll 5 seconds, matching the pre-roll time of the other VTRs in the plant.

Dennis Degan, Editor-Consultant-Knowledge Bank
NBC Today Show, New York

_______________________________________________
Please trim posts to relevant info when replying!
Send QuadList list posts to QuadList@quadvideotapegroup.com
Your subscribe, unsubscribe and digest options are here:
http://mail.quadvideotapegroup.com/mailman/listinfo/quadlist_quadvideotapegroup.com
