<DIV>All of your description is basically correct except for one thing. In
record, the capstan is actually locked to the head tach, and that is important
because that is what maintains the correct spacing of the video tracks
regardless of what the vertical frequency is. Since the head is also
locked to the V rate, when it "slows down" for color, the capstan is also slowed
proportionately and the tracks are written in the correct place. The same
process is used whether the capstan motor is AC or DC.</DIV>
