While the recording looked good (no herringbone) the camera was in lousy shape. Those TK-41s required a lot of care and this one didn't get it. I think a lot of the noise came from the camera. Digital noise reduction may help improve the image.<div><br></div><div>While the main camera for the WRC-TV dedication is the best 41 I have ever seen, the recording was marred with herringbone interference due to the early color recording.</div><div><br></div><div>And yes, Ampex did donate many things to Stanford but I haven't searched for that tape.</div><div><br></div><div>The original copyright was to Ampex in 1960.</div><div><br><div apple-content-edited="true"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: auto; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0; "><div style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; text-indent: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; text-transform: none; orphans: 2; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; "><div style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; "><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: separate; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; text-indent: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; text-transform: none; orphans: 2; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; "><div><div>Best,</div><div>Park</div><div><br></div></div><div>C. I'm unsure of the provenance of this particular recording, but we have at least two versions of the "Kitchen Debate". One is a high-band color copy, presumably from a low-band original or copy. The tape is about 18 minutes and is quite noisy, as the earliest low-band recordings often were when played back from later generation machines. We also have a shorter black and white copy that contains voice-over translation of the Russian, also quite noisy.</div> <div> </div> <div>It was my understanding that the original was recorded at the Ampex exhibit at the 1959 Moscow Trade Fair. Therefore the copyright should reside with the Ampex Corporation (unless they failed to renew it). I believe the records of the Ampex Corporation were deeded to Stanford University, and are a core collection of its "Silicon Valley Museum". If anyone knows otherwise, I would be interested to learn more.</div> <div> </div> <div>Thanks,</div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div>Steve Greene<br>Audiovisual Archivist<br>Nixon Presidential Library and Museum<br>(301) 837-1772<br><br>>>> <a href="mailto:park@videopark.com">park@videopark.com</a> 1/3/2009 2:08:26 PM >>><br></div> <div style="COLOR: #000000"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Nixon-Khrushchev-Kitchen-President-Kennedy-Khrushchev/dp/B000XPXUPE/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_3">http://www.amazon.com/Nixon-Khrushchev-Kitchen-President-Kennedy-Khrushchev/dp/B000XPXUPE/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_3</a> <div><br></div> <div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="FONT-SIZE: 13px; FONT-FAMILY: verdana"> <ul style="PADDING-RIGHT: 0px; PADDING-LEFT: 0px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 0px; MARGIN: 0px; PADDING-TOP: 0px; LIST-STYLE-TYPE: none"> <li style="MARGIN: 0.5em 0em"><b>Studio:</b> National Archives and Records Administration </li><li style="MARGIN: 0.5em 0em"><b>DVD Release Date:</b> October 22, 2007 </li><li style="MARGIN: 0.5em 0em"><b>Run Time:</b> 16 minutes</li></ul></span> <div><br></div> <div>$10.95</div> <div><br> <div apple-content-edited="true"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="WORD-SPACING: 0px; FONT: 12px Helvetica; TEXT-TRANSFORM: none; COLOR: rgb(0,0,0); TEXT-INDENT: 0px; WHITE-SPACE: normal; LETTER-SPACING: normal; BORDER-COLLAPSE: separate; orphans: 2; widows: 2; webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; webkit-text-stroke-width: 0"> <div style="WORD-WRAP: break-word; webkit-nbsp-mode: space; webkit-line-break: after-white-space"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="WORD-SPACING: 0px; FONT: 12px Helvetica; TEXT-TRANSFORM: none; COLOR: rgb(0,0,0); TEXT-INDENT: 0px; WHITE-SPACE: normal; LETTER-SPACING: normal; BORDER-COLLAPSE: separate; orphans: 2; widows: 2; webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; webkit-text-size-adjust: auto"> <div style="WORD-WRAP: break-word; webkit-nbsp-mode: space; webkit-line-break: after-white-space"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="WORD-SPACING: 0px; FONT: 12px Helvetica; TEXT-TRANSFORM: none; COLOR: rgb(0,0,0); TEXT-INDENT: 0px; WHITE-SPACE: normal; LETTER-SPACING: normal; BORDER-COLLAPSE: separate; orphans: 2; widows: 2; webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 0px; webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 0px; webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: none; webkit-text-size-adjust: auto"> <div> <div>Best,</div> <div>Park</div> <div><br></div></div> <div>C.
